Concrete Work
We pour plain concrete patios and walkways, plus pads for sheds and equipment. Steps and landings go in as part of a bigger outdoor project.

A good gravel driveway starts below the stone, with a base graded so water drains away. Veridian Corp builds gravel driveways across southern West Virginia, alongside our work as a landscaping contractor in Beckley. We shape that base, then spread number 57 stone over it. The same work builds parking areas and pads for homes and businesses.
We also fix the drive you already have. On a rutted or washed-out drive, we regrade the surface and add fresh stone. When a new route runs through brush or woods, land clearing opens the way first. Call or text (304) 237-1212 for a free estimate.
Tell us about the patio, wall, planting or clearing job and where the property is. We look at the job and put a free estimate in writing.
Gravel driveway installation starts with the ground under the stone. We pull any stumps and roots in the way. Then we grade the base with the same machines we use for excavation and grading.
The federal gravel roads guide recommends a crown, with the center a little higher than the edges. It puts the rise at about half an inch per foot, near 4 percent. We grade a driveway base so rain and snowmelt run off to the sides. Then we spread the number 57 stone over it.
The ground changes across our service area. The USDA soil survey maps well-drained silt loam and loam over shale and sandstone on Beckley's gentler plateau tops. Old fill and reclaimed mine ground behave differently, so we look at the ground before we price a drive.
Water does most of the damage. Without a crown, rain and snowmelt collect on the surface and soften it, the federal guide says. Beckley sees plenty of both, with about 56 inches of snow a year in NOAA's normals.
Traffic does the rest. Tires loosen the top stone and push it to the edges and between the wheel tracks, the guide notes. Small potholes and an uneven surface follow. Water that stays in the low spots can lead to ruts that reach the soil below.
About a third of Beckley's land sits on slopes of 15 percent or more, per the USDA soil survey. Washboard ripples form where drivers speed up or brake hard, like on steep hills, the federal guide adds. Where a drive is cut into a hillside, a retaining wall beside the drive can hold the bank.
Building or rebuilding a driveway onto a state road takes a permit from the West Virginia Division of Highways. The Division says to check with your district office before building. A driveway put in without a permit can bring a fine or removal by Highways employees.
The Division's driveway manual sets the rules at the road edge. Where a ditch runs along the road, it calls for a pipe at least 15 inches across under the drive. For homes and farms, it says the drive need not be paved, though it calls gravel or pavement highly desirable. Your district office answers the pipe and permit questions, and we point you there.
The manual also covers snow at the mouth of the drive. It makes the property owner responsible for snow and ice on the entrance, windrows included. Driveway snow cannot be pushed onto the road or its shoulder. In winter, we plow driveways and lots as part of our snow plowing work.
