How Tree Removal With Machinery Works

Every tree removal starts with a look at the job. We check the tree and what sits in its path. The slope and the buildings nearby decide where the machinery sets up.

We bring the tree down with the machinery and cut it into pieces for hauling. Then we load it out and clean up the work area.

Tell us which trees stay. The West Virginia Division of Forestry advises keeping equipment and stored materials away from trees you want to keep. It also advises keeping the soil over their roots from getting packed down.

Is a Dead or Leaning Tree a Hazard?

The U.S. Forest Service lists the warning signs of a hazard tree. A dead tree is very dangerous, even when insects or disease killed it. Broken branches hanging in the crown can fall without warning.

Mushrooms or shelf-like conks on a tree are a sign its structure is weak. Cracks in the trunk or the limbs point the same way. A tree leaning more than 10 degrees from vertical has a high potential to fail. Soil heaving up around the roots means the tree may be ready to fall.

Ash trees deserve a close look. The West Virginia Division of Forestry says emerald ash borer is in West Virginia and attacks only ash. A U.S. Forest Service pest alert says an infested tree is often dead after 2 to 3 years.

Tree Removal Service Around Beckley and Southern West Virginia

Much of Beckley is built on sloped ground. NRCS soil maps put about a third of the land inside the city on slopes of 15 percent or more. On a hillside lot, the machinery needs solid footing and room to work.

We take down trees across Raleigh County and from Summersville to Princeton. Tree removal is also part of our work on coal mine sites, where we keep the ground clear. When a whole lot needs to open up, land clearing takes out the brush and the trees together.

Once the stump is ground, the spot can go back to grass or a planting bed. If the tree screened your yard, a row of Green Giant arborvitae can bring that screen back. New beds and sod are part of our landscaping around Beckley.

FAQ

Tree Removal Questions, Answered

Common questions about tree removal around Beckley and the rest of southern West Virginia. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (304) 237-1212

How much does tree removal cost?
The price depends on the size and condition of the tree and how close it stands to the house. Slope and machine access matter too, along with how much wood and brush there is to haul. Grinding the stump adds to the job when you want it gone. We look at the job and put a free estimate in writing, and financing is available.
Can you take down a tree close to my house?
Yes, when our machinery can reach it from solid ground. We look at the room around the tree and what sits below it before we quote. A tree that needs a climber or a crane over the roof is a job for a tree service. Tree trimming goes to a tree service too.
What should I do if a tree is on a power line?
Stay back and keep everyone away from the tree and the line. Call the electric company first. When the line is safe, call or text us about taking the tree down.
What happens to the stump after the tree comes down?
If you want it gone, we grind it below grade, then fill and grade the hole. When the yard needs leveling after the trees come out, grading and site prep can follow. Before digging or grading, West Virginia law says to call 811 at least 48 hours ahead. Weekends and holidays do not count toward the 48 hours.
Do I need a permit to remove trees in Beckley?
Ask the City of Beckley Code Enforcement Office about your address before work starts. The Beckley Sanitary Board's rules count clearing and grubbing, the pulling of stumps and roots, as land disturbance. Minor work of 500 square feet or less is excluded, and the Board answers what a bigger job needs.
How can I tell if emerald ash borer hit my ash tree?
The USDA lists the signs. Look for dead branches near the top and small D-shaped exit holes in the bark. Short vertical splits can open in the bark over the tunnels. Clusters of new shoots often sprout from the trunk.
